Over-head sprinklers
1. | Ask for low-volume sprinkler heads, which cut the amount of water delivered so that the soil can absorb more of the water it receives. Ask for matched-precipitation heads, which guarantee that a half-circle head will deliver just as much water as a full-circle head, rather than the same amount over a smaller area. |
1. | Place sprinkler heads to apply water over large areas of landscaping such as turf and ground cover areas. |
1. | Sprinkler-heads apply water in gallons per minute (gpm). |
1. | The heads should apply water slowly and with uniform coverage. |
1. | The heads should be placed so that water from one sprinkler reaches the adjacent heads (head-to-head coverage). |
1. | Sprinklers and bubblers work best in small areas of continuously rooting ground cover and bedding plants. |
1. | Misters are best for plants that benefit from moist foliage (such as ferns). |
1. | Generally, today’s sprinklers throw water a minimum of 5 feet; so, make sure that the area utilizing sprinklers is at least 5 feet in length. |
